Smart node relocation (SNR) and connectivity restoration mechanism for wireless sensor networks

Abstract Node failures are inevitable in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) because nodes WSNs miniature and equipped with small often irreplaceable batteries. Due to battery drainage, can fail at any instance. Moreover, operate hostile environments environmental factors may also contribute failure. Failure of leads disruption inter-node connectivity might lead network partitioning. communicate each other the base station compromise basic operation network. For restoration connectivity, a robust recovery mechanism is required. The existing mechanisms suffer from shortcomings they do not focus on energy-efficient coverage-aware while performing restoration. As result, most these excessive mobility nodes, which itself causes utilization battery. In this work, we propose novel technique called smart node relocation (SNR). SNR capable detecting restoring caused by either single or multiple failures. achieving energy efficiency, relies transmitting lesser number control packets. goal being coverage-aware, it tries relocate only essential trying restore connectivity. By extensive simulations, prove that outperforms approaches concerning performance metrics including but limited total packets transmitted, distance moved for restoration, percentage reduction field coverage.
